Word   Human Papilloma virus, High Risk Only; Oral/Anal/other non-cervical specimens
About 75 percent of sexually active people will be infected with HPV during their lifetime. Human papilloma viruses are a group of more than 100 different viruses. Several high risk types of HPV have been associated with a variety of cancers including oral, anal, and penile cancers. This assay detects only these high risk HPV types. This is a screening test to be used along with cytology to help identify patients who have HPV positive lesions at high risk for certain cancers
Word   Automated Fecal Occult Blood Test
Submit a single random sample from one stool specimen collected in FOBT Sample Collection Device. (stool specimen should coat the ridges of the probe in sample bottle)
Word   Prothrombin Gene Mutation (also known as Factor II)
Effective January 1, 2005, the volume of whole blood necessary for the performance of Prothrombin Gene Mutation testing is reduced to a minimum of 0.5 mL of whole blood in an EDTA tube. Volumes less than 0.5 mL may lead to failed isolations due to the dilution of the blood with anticoagulants.
Word   Hereditary Hemochromatosis
Effective January 1, 2005, the volume of whole blood necessary for the performance of HHDNA testing is reduced to a minimum of 0.5 mL of whole blood in an EDTA tube. Volumes less than 0.5 mL may lead to failed isolations due to the dilution of the blood with anticoagulants.
Word   Her-2/neu gene amplification, FISH
Used as a prognostic factor in stage II, node-positive breast cancer patients. An aid to predict disease-free and overall survival of the above patients when treated with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin and 5-fluorouracil. Breast cancer patients with a 2+ IHC Her-2/neu stain who are candidates for Herceptin treatment.
Word   BCR/ABL, Translocation 9;22, Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH), Philadelphia chromosome.
Word   Allergy Testing
Testing for Total IgE and Allergen Specific IgE levels on serum samples will be performed at the NorDx Scarborough campus laboratory. This change transfers the status of these tests to “in-house” procedures.
Word   Cystic Fibrosis Carrier Screening and Genotyping
Testing for Cystic Fibrosis Carrier Screening and Genotyping will be performed using the Hologic invader platform. This assay detects 46 mutations and polymorphisms in the CFTR gene, including the 23 mutations on the ACMG recommended panel plus 23 additional variants.
Word   Cystic Fibrosis Informed Consent Form
A completed Cystic Fibrosis Informed Consent Form is required with each CF specimen.
