Dermatopathology
Dermatopathology and Immunodermatology encompass the microscopic evaluation of cutaneous diseases. Our staff is available for interpretation of specimens sent as wet tissue for processing. Reports include description of the histological pattern, diagnosis, and differential diagnosis when appropriate. The following studies are available in our laboratories:
Dermatopathology
Routine histologic examination of hematoxylin-and-eosin stained sections, histochemical stains (e.g., for mucin, fungi, elastic tissue), and special immunocytochemical stains useful in the differential diagnosis of neoplasms and lymphoreticular infiltrates
Immunodermatology
Direct immunofluorescence testing of tissue indicated in the evaluation of bullous diseases, connective tissue diseases, lichen planus, urticarial eruptions, vasculitis, and a variety of other dermatoses
Oral/maxillofacial pathology
Routine histologic examination of hematoxylin-and-eosin stained sections and consultative services are available routinely. Immunofluorescent testing on oral biopsies indicated in the evaluation of mucous membrane pemphigoid, pemphigus vulgaris or other vesiculerosive disease are performed as indicated
